Edinburgh, York, London, Bath, Cardiff, pt. 1

We returned on Saturday from 12 days of travelling around Britain. It was a great way to spend a Spring Break, albeit an exhausting one. Both myself and Bonnie have returned to Dublin a little less than healthy, but that’s to be expected. The important thing is that we’re home safe, we can return to the Euro (Dublin feels cheap compared to London and the GBP we burned through), and we can stop wearing the same three outfits over and over again. Clean clothes have never been so exciting.

As I mentioned below, Edinburgh blew me away. The city was easily the most breathtaking place we visited. It has everything to do with the color of the stone, and the complexity of the city’s layout, which overlaps itself several times over, to the point where it’s easy to lose track of where you are vertically. I’ve never experienced that feeling before (except in elevators when I close my eyes).

Travelling to York was the first time I ever entered another country not by air. Because it’s all the UK, I’m still unsure at what point the ground we were rolling upon ceased to be Scotland and started to be England. York was smaller than Edinburgh, and more humble in terms of its unique features. We visited York Minster, the largest minster in all of Europe, and took a leisurely walk along the city’s old medieval walls, which are still standing. On one rainy evening, we went to the cinema to see Transamerica. Which stars a woman, playing a man in the process of becoming a woman. Challenging role to play, I’d imagine. She did a pretty spectacular job, and the film was great, as well.

More from Britain coming soon…
